Write on scientists
As a part of the continuing PEST movement, several
organisation now offer prizes for scientists who fancy themselves as
writers. This list is bound to be incomplete and out of date. We don't
have time to make regular checks on each organisation. They are just
indications of places that keen scientists can visit for more information.
Do let us know if you hear of, or run, a competition that we should list
here. As usual, those fine folks at the Wellcome Trust offer even more
information. this comes in the shape of the excellent PSCI-COM web site.
Go there for an even longer list of ways for scientists to extract money
to do there thing in public. |

They don't seem to mention it on their web site. (Well, we can't find
it.) But the Times Higher Education Supplement runs an annual competition
with OUP. More details when we can track them down. |

Wellcome Trust and New Scientist essay
competition
"The
Wellcome Trust Prize is a unique opportunity for professional life
scientists to tell the world about the wonders of science. The prize of £25,000 will enable the winner to take a break from their normal routine so
that they can write a popular science book about some aspect of the life
sciences. The aim is to write an important or influential book that will
not only inspire, stimulate and inform the general lay reader, but will
also open up new ways of thinking about the world and set the agenda for
future debate and discussion."
The trust
also runs an essay competition in collaboration with New Scientist.
"A chance for PhD students to tell the world about their research - and
win a cash prize."
