Nominations are now closed
Full and life members of ABSW are invited to stand for one of six vacancies on the ABSW Board; Board members serve a two-year term starting and ending at the Annual General Meeting (usually held in March or April). The current vacancies are:
- ABSW Secretary
- ABSW Treasurer
- ABSW European Representative
- ABSW Board member (three vacancies)
Whoever is elected to the Secretary and Treasurer roles will become Directors of ABSW and there are more role descriptions here:
Secretary
The Secretary is one of the four Directors of ABSW and so a lot of the responsibility lies in discussing issues and ideas with the other Directors and taking joint decisions on them.
The most important part of the Secretary role itself is to ensure that the essential legal and administrative obligations on companies (such as updates to Companies House) are fulfilled - although this work is done very competently by our paid staff, so it's just a matter of checking in with them.
The Secretary also organises the board meeting cycle (date, agenda, attendance, minutes etc). There are six of these a year.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is a Director of ABSW, and has a watchdog role over all aspects of financial management, working closely with other members of the ABSW Board to safeguard the organisation's finances.
Although the Treasurer ensures that these responsibilities are met, much of the work is carried out by paid staff. In summary, the Treasurer is responsible for:
- General financial oversight
- Funding, fundraising and sales
- Financial planning and budgeting
- Financial reporting
- Banking, book keeping and record keeping
- Control of fixed assets and stock
Nominations closed at 23:59 on Tuesday 14 March 2023; please note that you and your two nominators must be full or life members of ABSW. If posts are contested, we will run open elections with the results announced at the AGM on 18 April 2023.
