ABSW is supporting the Journo Resources Fellowship for 2024, funding a Diversity Scholarship.

The fellow will receive a specific brief from the Association of British Science Writers for their piece.

“The Association of British Science Writers always tries hard to enable people from underrepresented backgrounds to enter the profession. It therefore made total sense for us to support the Journo Resources Fellowship”, says Andy Extance, ABSW chair.

Candidates will be asked if they come from an underrepresented or marginalised background. If comfortable, candidates can explain more about this.

“The Journo Resources Fellowship Programme is part of our commitment to supporting people in taking their first steps into the journalism industry”, states Jem Collins, founding director and editor-in-chief of Journo Resources.

To apply, fellows must be based in the UK, and be aged 18 or older by September 30. If they are a student, they must have less than one year left of study, and won’t be eligible if they are already working a regular, paid, role in journalism, either part-time or full-time.

This scheme will run for six months and fellows are expected to complete the whole programme, which includes at least six webinars and six mentoring calls with a dedicated mentor aligned with their interests. They will be paid at least ÂŁ170 to write an original piece for Journo Resources website and will work with an experienced editor.

Other Journo Resources fellowships are sponsored by The Printing Charity and Newsworks. Journo Resources is running the scheme for the fourth year.

Applications to the scheme close at 11:59 pm on September 1, 2024. If you have any questions, you should write an email to Journo Resources.

The Association of British Science Writers is registered in England and Wales under company number 07376343 at 76 Glebe Lane, Barming, Maidstone, Kent, ME16 9BD.
