This 90-minute session offered a practical overview of the common legal challenges science and technical journalists face, with tips on how to avoid libel and a reminder of the main defences to defamation, plus an update on copyright law and other core areas of law. 

About the trainer

David Mascord is an editorial training consultant and university lecturer specialising in media law. His clients include Reed Business, IPC Media (now Future) RCNi, the PPA, Mark Allen Media, Faversham House and many others. 

He lectures on BA and MA Journalism degrees at Bournemouth University and is an examiner in media law and court reporting for the National Council for the Training of Journalists. He began his career as a journalist working on business and professional titles and consumer magazines.
