The judges have now met and decided on the European Science Writer of the Year 2018 finalists:

Martin Enserink, International News Editor, Science (The Netherlands), nominated by Vereniging voor Wetenschapsjournalistiek en-communicatie Nederland (VWN) - read Martin's submitted work translated to English

Nathaniel Herzberg, Science journalist, Le Monde (France), nominated by Association des journalistes scientifiques de la presse d'information (AJSPI) - read Nathaniel's submitted work translated to English

Eva Wolfangel, Freelance (Germany), nominated by German Science Journalists’ Association (WPK) - read Eva's submitted work translated to English

The winner will be announced at the 5th European Conference of Science Journalists on Sunday 8 July in Toulouse, France.   

The European Science Writer of the Year Award, now in its fourth year, is co-ordinated by the ABSW and supported by Johnson & Johnson Innovation. Individuals are nominated for the Award by representative organisations for journalism or science journalism,  throughout Europe. 

Mico Tatalovic, Chair of the ABSW Executive Board said: "This competition has been growing each year, and we’ve had a record number of entries this year. It’s fantastic to see so many excellent science journalists producing an amazing variety of high quality content around the continent. I’m looking forward to meeting the winners at the ECSJ in Toulouse in July.

Sabine Louët, Founder SciencePOD.net and one of the judges said: "The level of entries was particularly high, this year. It is good to see science journalism is gaining some firm ground in terms of quality, right across Europe. We need to continue engaging with the science journalists community in Europe to share good practice and facilitate cross-border reporting."

In 2018 the ABSW selected its nomination from those individuals that entered to become 'British Science Writer of the Year 2018' as part of the ABSW's annual Science Writers' Awards for Great Britain and Ireland.
